A new feature of the Tall Ships gathering is a unique community opportunity to participate in a Dalhousie University led, blue wave, as part of the Parade of Sail. We’re asking everyone attending the Parade of Sail to wear blue on both sides of the Harbour as we wave farewell to the fleet with a celebration of our ocean pride.
#HFXBlueWave
Tall Ships Parade of Sail route:
Once in sequence the ships will sail south toward the mouth of the harbour circling Georges Island, gathering north of McNabs Island and sailing along the Dartmouth waterfront up to just south side of the Macdonald Bridge. They will then turn over to the Halifax side and sail out of the harbour all along the Halifax waterfront side.

UPDATE: As of 1:30pm today (August 16), the 6 Tall Ships are tentatively planning to take part in a Sail Past. They are expected to leave Digby around 3pm.
Nova Scotia’s final farewell to the RDV 2017 Tall Ships Regatta will take place in Annapolis Royal on Wednesday, August 16. Six Tall Ships (including Bluenose II, Bowdoin, Lord Nelson, Picton Castle, When and If, and Wylde Swan) are scheduled to leave Digby in the afternoon of August 16 for an arrival as close to the town of Annapolis Royal as weather conditions allow by between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Following a day full of musical performances, farmers and traders markets, and food demonstrations downtown, the evening's celebrations will wrap up with fireworks at the Annapolis Royal Wharf and a candlelight graveyard tour at 9:15 pm.
It is important to note that the safety of the ships and their crews is paramount. Weather conditions on Wednesday will be the determining factor in how far down the Annapolis River the ships will be able to safely sail and which ships choose to do so. In consideration of this fact, Waterfront Development in partnership with local organizers has arranged for additional viewing options of the Tall Ships. A professional video crew will be onboard a ship alongside the Tall Ships and will live stream footage of the sail past to several large screens located in convenient viewing locations in downtown Annapolis Royal. Not only will this ensure viewing of all of the Tall Ships scheduled for the sail past regardless of weather conditions, it will also provide unique views of the ships at sail that would otherwise be unavailable.
The final decisions as to how far each of the Tall Ships is comfortable sailing down the Annapolis River will be made on Wednesday afternoon and that information will be shared with the public by no later than 2:00 pm. Given we don’t experience heavy fog on Wednesday, the Tall Ships should be visible in the Annapolis Basin from vantage points around the basin, in addition to the unique views that be available via live streaming in downtown Annapolis Royal.
RDV 2017 Tall Ships Regatta participants have visited 11 ports throughout Nova Scotia this summer, and at each and every port the intrepid seafarers were welcomed in the manner Nova Scotia is known for worldwide, with warmth, excitement, enthusiasm and a genuine understanding of the significance of sail and its place in our history.
